WHAT
IS THE NET LIBRARY ?
The net library is the public
service on the Internet of the Bergen Public Library (BOB). The
bibliographical information and services are based upon the material
and the personnel of the BOB. It comprises tradional library services
available on-line, new material produced for the net library,
mailbox for opinions and enquiries, and an offer, somewhat limited,
of reference services rendered via E-mail.
The net library will be under constant growth and development
regarding bibliographical data, links to useful sources on the
net, self-produced material, various services, and self-service
options.
The net library has been developed
1997-98 with support from the Norwegian Directorate for Public
Libraries, the Norwegian Council for Cultural Affairs and the
artist Gerhard
Stoltz has given it form.
MULTILINGUAL
RESOURCES
Bergen Public Library offers books and other
material in about 30 languages.
On the web
pages for multilingual collections you may have a look at the
books and other material the library offers in various languages.
In addition you will find what material the library contains about
some of the countries where the languages are spoken.
THE MUSIC
DEPARTMENT
Here you will find sheet
music, CDs, books and videos.
Periodicals
and reference services (reference books, CD-ROM, Internet (by booking))
can all be used in the library.
We aim to cover all types of music.
The
Grieg Archives (Edvard Griegs compositions, letters etc)
are described in Norwegian,
English,
German,
French
and Japanese .
If you have any questions, you can consult
the librarians in the department. We gladly receive suggestions
for purchases.
THE CHILDREN'S
DEPARTMENT
has jokes, rhymes, book tips, etc. which are
changed weekly. There is also a page with links to net sites for
children
The children's department also presents different
themes.
AUTHORS FROM
WESTERN NORWAY
Practically all authors from Western Norway
are members of The Norwegian Writers' Agency. The majority offer
lectures/instruction on their own work, and many also offer talks
on or instruction in other subjects.
THE NET LIBRARY has, in co-operation with
the Western Norway Branch of The Norwegian Writers' Agency produced

THE LOCAL
HISTORY DEPARTMENT
Here you can find information on the departments
latest
acquisitions,, and about local
history books in progress. You will also find links to pages
on the Internet concerned with local history and
genealogy .The department is mainly concerned with material
on Bergen, Hordaland and Western Norway, but the genealogical material
covers the whole country.
You can also consult
the department's librarians about any questions you may have and
we, on our side, will be grateful for any suggestions from the public
on work in progress, or suggestions for book purchases |
